
Sunjay Kapur, Karisma Kapoor’s Ex, Dies at 53
Kuala Lumpur, June 13, 2025 – Sunjay Kapur, prominent Indian businessman and ex-husband of Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, passed away at 53 in the UK on June 12, 2025. He suffered a heart attack while playing polo, reportedly after a bee entered his mouth, triggering the fatal incident. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved.
Kapur, chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading automotive company, was also CEO of Sixt India and founder of Five Rivers Hospitality Group. Married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, he had two children, Samaira and Kiaan. Their divorce was widely publicized. He later married Priya Sachdev in 2017, with whom he had a son, Azarias.
Tributes poured in, with actor Suhel Seth posting on X: “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur… a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar …Om Shanti.” Kapur’s last X post mourned the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.
